I started using loestrin 24 about 4 months ago. My periods are now really thick brown mucous and they seem to be happening twice in a month. I don’t know if this is normal or a bad sign.

My girlfriend started birth control a month ago and started spotting before her period and then was on her period for about four days. And the day after She got off her period we started having unprotected sex for three days in a row. And then three days after that she started seeing a lot of blood again. Do you think it means her body is just adjusting to the Pill?

If your girlfriend started the pill such a short time ago then yes I would venture to say that she has mid-cycle spotting and it is common when first starting birth control pills. She should expect other changes in her body as she adjusts as well. Remember also that the pill does not prevent pregnancy but if she were to get pregnant it would abort it each month. I have to be responsible and tell you both that.

I take my birth control religiously, and I recently, well sort of recently, went through child birth (in January) and didn’t breast feed, so I started my birth control roughly around mid April. Like I said, I take it regularly and I have not missed a single dose, but I had unprotected sex June 14, and I was supposed to start my period yesterday, but all I have had so far was light spotting. Should I take a pregnancy test just to make sure? and if I’m not pregnant, then why am I only spotting instead of actually being on my period. (I had a regular period last month, and the month before I had a month long period, which is also the same month I started my birth control.)

(also, since I’ve been taking birth control, I’ve been really really dry down there..if that means anything..?)

Unfotunately, your dates do not make sense to me. Please tell me the first day of each cycle and how many days you bled for.

    Hi,
I started taking birth control the beginning of April. My doctor told me it would take until the end of July to fully protect me.
My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex this month, on June 15th (my first day of my last period was June 8th).
I’ve been having sore breats since the 23rd (concentrated around the nipple). I’ve been having headaches, random cramps in my lower abdomen, and my stomach has been very “grumbly”.
I’ve also been extremely exhausted (often going to bed from 8:30-9:30!)

My period isn’t due until July 6th. But today I had a little bit of spotting (vaginal discharge with pink dots in it) when I wiped myself after peeing.

Could this all be signs of my birth control setting in? Or should I be concerned about other things?

Thanks for your help. (I just wanted to add, my boyfriend pulled out and didn’t finish inside of me)

    Hello Scared,

If you ovulated early then you should know by now that you may very well be pregnant with those symptoms. Since the pill allows you to get pregnant and then forces a miscarriage it is likely that your signs are real. You would have ovulated around between the 15th and the 20th in order to be pregnant. That means by June 29th you would be close to 2 weeks pregnant if so. I felt strong symptoms of pregnancy at only 7 days pregnant and it happens a lot like that. I am sorry to say that if you are pregnant there is a good chance that the pill will cause you to miscarry but since you are newly on the pill I cannot make any prediction about that. It is now July 6th so you either know by now or should be taking a test if you still feel that way. Try our store if you need supplies but be careful and don’t test things. Consider condoms. Even pulling out early does not insure you are safe; it is a myth. blessings, brenda

If you are dry then it means you are on too strong a dose of BCPs. Check with your doctor. If you are dry “there” it will dry your whole body out and you might want to stop and ponder if you have been drying in your nose, eyes and in general. At this time of year, allergies can be the reason for dryness also but not USUALLY there. It is generally a low estrogen thing.
